Tonight we're liveblogging the results of two special elections to the House:
NY-09: David Weprin (D) vs. Bob Turner (R)
NV-02: Kate Marshall (D) vs. Mark Amodei (R)
Poll closing times: New York: 9pm Eastern | Nevada: 10pm Eastern / 7pm Pacific
Results: New York | Nevada
8:03 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Let's open thread #4 with a brief update about the status of both races. Both Dems are in no small amount of peril as we head into this hour. In NY-09, Democrat David Weprin trails Republican Robert Turner by a 51-48 margin, despite most of the early precincts coming from Queens. Meanwhile, in NV-02, the early votes (mostly rural) had Republican Mark Amodei up 64-32 on Democrat Kate Marshall. We are hearing of other counties tightening the margin, but not enough to put the outcome in doubt, it would seem.
8:12 PM PT (Steve Singiser): NY-09 has always seen a split between the Queens and Brooklyn parts of the district, but this is stark: Weprin actually leads the Queens part 50-49. But his 71-29 deficit in Brooklyn is crushing his chances here. He needed a big edge in Queens. Unless the precincts thus far have coincidentally avoided the Dem pockets there, he's in deep trouble.
8:17 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Queens continues to creep in Weprin's direction. Now leads there by three, which cuts his district deficit down to 51-48. The problem for him: what remains, in terms of raw precinct numbers, is now close to even between Queens (which is leaning D) and Brooklyn (which is heavily R).
