As Clarknt67 diaried the other day, Tammy Aaberg recently paid a trip to Michele Bachmann’s office. Tammy is the grieving mother of Justin, a gay eighth-grader who took his own life after he couldn’t take the bullying anymore. Justin went to school in the Anoka-Hennepin school district, in which school officials are prohibited from talking about homosexuality, making it quite difficult, as you can imagine, to tackle the anti-gay bullying problem. Tammy went to Bachmann’s office and made a simple request: that Bachmann sign a petition against anti-gay bullying. Bachmann’s office said the Congresswoman would respond after the petition undergoes "review” Because, you know, this is a tough one.
Well, now Bachmann has an answer for Tammy Aaberg, as well as all the other parents of bullied children in her district: Bullying isn’t a federal issue.
Alex Limon traveled to a Michele Bachmann rally specifically to ask the Congresswoman about the bullying and suicide problem in her district, as well as what she plans to do about it. As Bachmann was shaking hands with her supporters, with her eyes undoubtedly bulging above her frightening smile, Limon got to ask his question. Bachmann gave him a one-line response:
That’s not a federal issue.
She then moved on to shake the next person’s hand.
That’s it. Simple as that. Eight students commit suicide in Bachmann’s district in a matter of two years, a “neutrality” policy prevents school officials from appropriately addressing the crisis, a grieving mother visits her office to plead that she take a leadership role in fighting bullying, and Bachmann’s response is that it’s a state’s rights issue.
There you go. Justin’s death and the deaths of the other bullied students aren’t Bachmann’s department. It’s no skin off her theocratic ass if a gay kid commits suicide. She’s more concerned about curing them.
Next!
Really classy, Congresswoman. Almost as classy as your “ex-gay” joke on Leno:
“Pray away the gray.” Really funny. Yeah, exploiting gay people and making them believe they’re not normal so they can lead lives of self-loathing and torment is really fucking funny. Tell me another one.
Can this woman get any more repulsive? Dare I even ask?
