I'm going to try this as a bit of a theraputic thing for myself. These diaries (when I post them) will be a free-flowing narrative that touch on a variety of subjects. Some will be wholly unconnected.
I ask you to bear with me - if you find this sort of thing interesting, feel free to comment. It's either going to be interesting, or not interesting at all.
Item 1 - Someone tell Rick Perry that it's "Is-re-al", not "Isruhl". Aside from his attempt to undermine the goverrnment, his pronunciation is atrocious. I lived in the south for ten years and can count on two hands the number of people who say "Nook-you-lar" - they're all conservatives.
Item 2 - DADT is dead. Yet there are some people still arguing for it. I think they're probably the same people who tried undoing the end of Jim Crow (and in many cases, still are). Once again, they are on the wrong side of history.
Item 3 - There's something hopelessly endearing about Michele Bachmann. How many times have you known someone who would say something so ridiculous that any thinking person would recognize that it was ridiculous - and when they get called out on it, they just double down! It's amazing. It sort of reminds me of the time in college when I won an argument with a female friend during a game of strip poker about whether or not I-40 went through Dallas. However, we were all drunk during the poker game and I'm pretty confident that my friend from the poker game is more qualified to be President.
Item 4 - Bachmann Redux - I have mentioned this guy in a past comment, and I'm changing names to protect the innocent - but you know how at Thanksgiving dinner, crazy uncle Dave in the tinfoil hat tries to tell us about a computer in Jerusalem that's controlling all our elected officials' thoughts? I think he's more qualified to be President than Michele Bachmann.
Item 5 - If I were prone to nightmares, I might have nightmares about the Taxmaster.
Item 6 - This past Saturday was my first time to visit the Big House in Ann Arbor. I don't care if they just played Eastern Michigan, that was an experience I'll never forget - I'll never forget the moment when I turned around and said "Huh, so THIS is what 110,000 people look like."
Item 7 - There's something so beautiful about a blue sky. Even though I don't have a true window in my office, it's nice to be able to turn around and look out the window at the end of the hall. Yesterday was such a doom and gloom rainy day. Not pleasant.
Item 8 - My district is ground zero in the Republican war on education in Michigan. Admittedly, that quote comes from the Mackinac Center but it's true. We've got a lot of good people working to recall a guy who is without question a real scumbag. Oh, and he's your typical family values conservative. And he's desperate.
Item 9 - This Troy Davis issue makes me sick. I don't even have the words to respond to it. I'm not generally anti-death penalty, but I do believe that in the absence of ABSOLUTE proof, capital punishment can not be an appropriate punishment. Unless of course, you're a moron, in which case you can be quoted saying:
It takes balls to execute an innocent man.
These are the people we're fighting against. And there's lots of them...
Item 10 - I DVR'ed the Sheen roast last night. Seriously looking forward to watching it. I have heard it was brutal.
Item 11 - I'm canceling Netflix. I should have done it before. The fact that you can't stream all the movies you can get via DVD was irritating, especially when I wanted to watch multi-episode documentaries.
Item 12 - Reason # 39,572 why I can't stand modern-day conservatives - "I take issue with you calling anyone in America poor. How can they be poor if they have a TV?"
Item 13 - We're number one. Yay.
Item 14 - Heard an interesting speaker at lunch today (local probate judge) talking about surviving breast cancer. What a remarkable woman, and what an amazing attitude towards her recovery. If you are a female over 40, even with no family history, be sure to get routine mammograms.
Item 15 - If your political ideology depends on disenfranchising voters, denying citizens basic human rights, and covering up for war criminals, your ideology sucks.
Item 16 - Crap, I forgot to take my medication this morning. I'm just a few hours late, so I'll take it when I get home. (Beta blocker)
Item 17 - My dad went to segregated schools in Arkansas - the white school. And he's often wondered if the phrase "separate but equal" was invented by someone who wanted to feel better about being a dick. Does Frank Luntz have a relative who was in the business before him?
Item 18 - Market's up almost 100. Makes my job easier. One of the stocks I recommended back in November has been killing it - up over 25 percent even with the pullbacks. Nice talking to happy clients.
Item 19 - Han shot first, and Mayweather is ducking Pacquiao. I said it.
Item 20 - Okay, I'm done for now. Have a few things to do in order to have a productive day.
