I think you're in trouble.
Via the
Boston Globe, it seems Sen. Scott Brown has a bit of pandering to do. He's getting right on that, and will an accept an award tonight from the Log Cabin Republicans for ... well, it's not entirely clear what, but I guess
they have to give an award to somebody:
In remarks planned for delivery in Washington to the 2011 Spirit of Lincoln Awards Dinner, a national event hosted by the Log Cabin Republicans, Brown defends himself by noting his vote last year in favor of repealing the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on gays serving openly in the armed forces.
That's probably enough to qualify you as being someone that gay Republicans should give an award to, I guess. Of course:
“Only a Republican Party group would think that Scott Brown deserves any kind of reward for being a champion of equal rights for the LGBT community,” Democratic spokesman Kevin Franck told the Globe.
“Scott Brown’s anti-gay record is so extreme that he even disagrees with the positions of the Log Cabin Republicans on virtually every issue including his opposition to marriage equality, his support for the Defense of Marriage Act, and his refusal to back the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, his view that it’s not ‘normal’ for gays and lesbians to raise children, and his refusal to fire an aide who mocked a campaign to prevent LGBT youth suicide,” the spokesman added.
I don't feel much sympathy for Brown, but you have to feel a little pain for the Log Cabin Republicans. They don't have a lot to work with here: Simply having one instance of not being actively hostile to gay Americans is apparently literally enough for them to give you a damn award, these days. Never mind all those other things he said that have made it clear he's not really on your side.
As Chris Bowers reported earlier, the PPP poll released this morning shows Brown now down two points to Elizabeth Warren, who just entered the race. That means he's in serious trouble.
You can help put him in more trouble by contributing to Elizabeth Warren on Orange to Blue.
