I suppose with the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's album Nevermind getting media attention once more, I'm becoming a bit nostalgic for that brief period of time when GenXers mattered. It's hard to know the bookends or this era but I gather it began with the rise of hip hop in the 1980's and, in my mind, it ended with the death of Bradley Nowell from the band, Sublime.
Sooooo below the squiggly symbol you'll find some Gen X goodness that will hopefully make you smile or make you say "I'm sorry I never heard that til now" or make you think 'I hate that crap'.
You gotta give us GenXers credit, even though we may not have created a lot, we sure contributed some exceptional music. And perhaps the coolest thing is we didn't give a damn if it obtained mainstream success or not. It was our secret that we hoped no one else would ever know.
So with this I try to avoid the obvious (by playing Nirvana, Pearl Jam, et cetera) and bring you nuggets of coolness from several genres. Anyway, I hope to do posts like this fairly frequently since I often pass my evenings listening to music from my past and I wish to share them with others who give a damn. NOTE: I sometimes get stuck on metal and/or rap. Just kick my ass in the comments if you notice I become hung up on a particular genre.
