“Keep it to yourself whether you’re heterosexual or homosexual.” Words of wisdom from Mr. Rick Santorum, who last night said he would reinstate the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in response to a soldier's question via satellite from Iraq about DADT.
Santorum opposes social experimentation with the military. That's why soldiers must “Keep it to yourself whether you’re heterosexual or homosexual.”
Santorum is totally right on the money here.
Our boys fight for God and Country. They don't need to parade around their sexual interests. They certainly don't advertise their interest in women. Take WWI. Our honorable doughboys strictly stuck to their business of killing the Hun. As this refined -- and extremely popular with the chaste members of the American Expeditionary Forces -- depicition of the wholesome life clearly shows:
See how tastefully the wildly popular artist Raphael Kirchner depicts this virtuous women prudently adjusting her stocking?
More wholesome images over the fold showing our fine boys in uniform keeping it to themselves.
Here's a few more examples of the kind of true-blue American things our doughboys liked to buy in postcard form, trade and send home by the ship load:
Sure, some might look at these works of art, fail to grasp their sublime character, and titter away like Beavis. But, just like Jesus said, "For you always have the Prurient with you, and, besides, Women are not to wear men's clothing -- it's an abomination unto the Lord."
Nope, those doughboys certainly kept it to themselves. And kept on keeping it to themselves in our next great conflict with the Hun. Just look at this nice, wholesome composite image of two of the most popular girls-next-door that our GI's plastered by the millions on their footlockers and their barracks:
That young lady on the left was Betty Grable. That picture of her was owned by 1 out of every 5 servicemen during the war. The lady on the right was Rita Hayworth. The term often used to describe such nice ladies was Hubba Hubba; a slang coined in 1944 from the onomatopoeic approximation of the sound associated with pushing the pins through the poster into the wall, where these images of home life were displayed. Hence, "Pin-Up Girl."
Here is one more pin up girl, my personal favorite, Lana Turner:
Such nicely coifed hair. Such a pretty necklace. And notice how clean those bubbles make her. Now that's what I call keeping it to myself!
You can find here a comprehensive list of all the Pin Up girls from WWII. There are over 200, but who's counting? Certainly not Mr. Santorum...
And let us not forget what all this keeping to themselves led to at the wars end. That's right, you got it, public promiscuity more keeping it to themselves. As this iconic image from Times Square shows:
Anyways, I could go on posting images from the Korean War, though Viet Nam, to the Iraq War Part I, all the way to now, showing just how much our boys in uniform refrain from expressing their interest in women and how gosh darn good that is, but I think we all get the point.
Santorum is totally right. Our soldiers must keep it to themselves whether they're heterosexual or homosexual. It's what they do. It's what they've always done.
