Friday nights are for TGIF; beer drinking; party time---and sports----mostly football; but also, at this time of the year, Baseball pennant races. (Or more, correctly now--the chase for the wild card)
So here we are: the early stages of football season; and the crucial end of the regular baseball season. Who will dominate? Or, perhaps, who will fail/choke?
Follow me for a quick look at the coming days....
First, the big event in much of the country on this official first day of Fall is football.
The Top 25 in College Football early on are right here
Clearly the powerhouse early on is Oklahoma---home of a couple of asshole politicians; but that's their problem. They play a big game this week: Missouri---Ha, yeah real big....
Best game for Top 25 teams? Either No. 14 Arkansas at No. 3 Alabama; or No. 2 LSU at No. 16 West Virginia. Who do you like???
Sadly, the bigger news this week in college sports is not who's playing who; but what "Conference" are you going to; or are leaving from....disgusting how this has become all about $$$$. (Gee, are we surprised????)
And, the so-called "student athlete" seemingly gets nothing-----well, in most cases: See: Newton, Cam. (also Bush, Reggie)
Meanwhile, the college game both in football, and in basketball are so much more enjoyable...really
------
Now the other hot sport event this weekend is the beginning of the final 6 games of the regular MLB baseball season----Several teams (of 8 that can) have already qualified for the playoffs: Philly, Detroit, and yes, the fucking Yankees!! Several others are still eligible: Likely to go in, are Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Arizona Diamondbacks.
However, the races are still open for the wild Card teams---including Atlanta Braves; St Louis Cardinals; Tampa Bay; Los Angeles Angels----and the fast-fading Red Sox.
The Red Sox are trying desparately to add to their inglorious history, by choking in the stretch run---and possibly losing out when they had an 11 game lead 3 weeks ago. They have lost 16 of last 21.......
Now you all know I'm a big fan; but I admit i have been surprised at how many women on dKos are deeply interested in sports...It's been a nice change to see....
So who are you rooting for; in either sport; in ANY sport? I know some out there even love
this so-called "sport".
OK---a little travelin' music, Sammy......
Autumn Leaves.... (Don't miss this)
Damn Yankees....
Oklahoma...
Rah, rah-sis boom ba....
Greatest sports call ever....
Gentlemen (and Ladies).....
Game on........pass the beer, please.....We're Tailgating, right?
