OK, something happened and all my diary prep went bye-bye. I'll do the best I can, so there will be something tonight. The first couple of segments will be a little thin as I try to recover what I lost.
Lots of great birthdays today! First, we have the butt of many puns, Euripides. Then, wish a happy 2074th to Augustus Caesar. Then wish a happy 796th to Kublai Khan. In the music world, today is John Coltrane's birthday, as well as this Asbury Park rocker:
Look at how man-scaped Bruce is! Look at how young! Look at how skinny Steven Van Zandt is! Look at Big Man's Fade! Look at a nineteen year old Courteney Cox in her first ever appearance!
It looks like there will be a HUGE moment of geek today!
On with the show!
First, Rachel talked about the crowd behavior at the debates. What will they cheer/boo next? Governor Shumlin of Vermont is here to talk RepubliKochs and their behavior. Vermont is making a great recovery, but he's worried about the GOBP and their wanting to let everyone be "on their own". People are demonstrating all over the country at bridges holding up banners to call for the Jobs Act to be passed to the country can be rebuilt.
Next, a short bit about Abbas and Netenyahu at the UN today.
"Vin Diagram" Governor Secession looked really bad at the debate, but he put out a slick movie trailer action hero ad. This ad was made by the same guy who made the Tim Paw........zzzzz ads! No wonder they look alike! I guess this guy has worked with Vin Diesel because that's what these things look like.
Preview of the Moment of Geek: Vince Wilfork, A satellite tweet, and changing the words of On Wisconsin to something to do with Sputnik. Hmm. Whatever could it be? Wink wink.
"Return Call" The anti-abortion crowd will stoop to any lengths to harass and intimidate. The owner of the property a Maryland clinic is on has not only put up all his contact information, but they've picketed his daughter's school. But this guy has done something about it. After the protest, some people asked what they could do to help. He took down the names and numbers of the anti abortion callers, and got people to call them back and say "sorry, we're not closing and we support a woman's right to choose". He's now started an organization to respond to these cretins who harass people. They will help respond. And here's Todd Staves here to talk about the organization he's started. Wow. His dad was an abortion doctor and his clinic got firebombed. "They've picked on the wrong guy". NICE. This is what we need to see. Kudos to him to do this in a non violent non confrontational way. This is one way that doing the same tactics works. Thank goodness he lives in Maryland, where law enforcement is on his side. In 2 days, he got FIVE THOUSAND people wanting to fight back against this intimidation. The anti abortion people are now asking him to stop calling them. HA! Your Dogma has been RUN OVER by KARMA! These groups have gone after the people who pick up the medical trash, who sell clinics supplies, they go after everyone. His organization is called Voice of Choice. They need volunteers. I think this will be a good thing. Rachel will have information on her website.
"Moment of Geek" We begin with the death of Skylab. A clip showed people looking for debris. And there were the marketing. Helmets, T-shirts, and a bunch of other crazy stuff. It wound up in Australia at a sheep ranch. Australia billed NASA $400 for littering. It was paid by a group of citizens in 2009! Sputnik crashed in Manitowac and every year they hold a "re-enactment" complete with crazy skits. There has only ONE person ever to be hit by falling space debris. And we're on to the current 6 ton satellite crashing to earth even as we speak. There are about 26 large chunks that may make it all the way down. One about the size of Vince Woolfork. But NASA isn't too sure about where it's going to crash. And we get the pun. All this happens on the first day of "Fall". GROAN!
And 3...2...1...PRISON!!
