Autumn is my favorite time of year! Here in southern Arizona it means cool crisp mornings and sunny, mild afternoons. The holiday season just around the corner. But best of all - the return of NCAA College Football Saturdays! College athletes giving it their all, those crazy overtimes, marching bands, seas of team colors in the stands. Teams with names like The Crimson Tide & Gators, Longhorns & Horned Frogs, Hurricanes & Cyclones, Trojans & Spartans - and who can forget the Ducks and the Beavers?

GUS (Gave Up Smoking) is a community support diary for Kossacks in the midst of quitting smoking. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. If you are quitting or thinking of quitting, please -- join us!  We kindly ask that politics be left out.
You can also click the GUS tag to view all diary posts, or access the GUS Library at dKosopedia for a great list of stop-smoking links. Check it out! GUS Library
A message to ALL quitters.  You don't have to avoid GUS if you have a failed quit.  We won't give you a bad time and we consider the failed quits as "practice" for the real quit.

Some great match-ups today! Afternoon games include #7 Oklahoma St. vs. #8 Texas A&M. Can #14 Arkansas surprise #3 Alabama? #11 Florida State visits the Clemson Tigers who are ranked only #21 but are 3-0. The late games look terrific as well  - I just hope the #10 Oregon Ducks don't decimate my Arizona Wildcats too badly. With only over the air broadcast TV from antenna (more than enough TV for me, except during football season) I only get the #2 LSU Tigers at the #16 Wests Virginia Mountaineers. I don't usually admit this in polite company, but  in a time long, long ago I was born in West Virginia, so I'll be rooting for the Mountaineers. #1 Oklahoma should have an easy time at Missouri, and the always fun to watch #4 Boise St. should roll over Tulsa. So post away in the comments as you follow your favorite teams and enjoy a smokeless Saturday, my 7th so far in the last 30 years.

And for the Kossack out there ready to quit but with no help for smoking cessation from insurance or other means, I'll repeat my offer: my insurance covered 2 prescriptions for 28 day nicotine patches and I only used one - actually 3 weeks of the patches was enough for me. So I'm happy to donate the remaining 28 day Phase 1 21mg patches to help turn a Kossack into a Gussack. Just message me.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
