A week ago, Jamey Rodemeyer took his own life.
Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old boy from Williamsville, NY, took his life Sunday after what his parents claim was years of bullying because of struggles with his sexuality.
To Lady Gaga, he was an awesome 'Little Monster' -- a dedicated young fan. Earlier this week his parents had him buried in a t-shirt that reads "Born This Way", Gaga's anthem to the LGBT equality movement. In Las Vegas last night, Lady Gaga memorialized him with her dedication of a performance of her recent song 'Hair':
Lady Gaga hasn't forgotten about the young fan she lost this week.
During her performance at the I Heart Radio fest in Las Vegas last night, she dedicated Hair to 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, one of her biggest fans who tragically killed himself due to bullying about his sexuality.
"I lost a little monster this week and I'd like to dedicate this song to him," she said, as a video montage with his photo played in the background. "Tonight, Jamey I know you're up there and looking at us and you're not a victim. Bullying is for losers. Put your hands up for Jamey!"
Here's the moving video of that. It's a great listen too.
Jamey knew a lot about bullying. In fact, he made his own "It Get's Better" video several months ago.
But it wasn't enough. It didn't make the bullying stop. And it eventually became too much. This diary, too, is dedicated to Jamey. And to stopping the bullying, before it claims yet more victims.
4:27 PM PT: Lady Gaga didn't just dedicate a song. Earlier this week this is what she tweeted:
