I've been sleeping for a third of my life, and it turns out I've been doing it wrong the whole time. Changing it is as weirdly unsettling as changing the way I breathe.
As part of rehabbing from a shoulder injury (see, I was swinging firewood at a tree trunk, and it flew back and gave me a black eye, a shoulder separation and, oh, never mind; I'm endlessly creative in finding ways to hurt myself) I was unequivocally told to stop sleeping on your stomach. Turns out it's the most maligned of all sleeping positions, even though to me it's the comfort food of slumber, the only truly deeply satisfying way to sleep.
So tell us: How do you sleep?

Did you know your personality type is revealed by your sleeping position, or that you have a second and secret personality that is only revealed by how you sleep?
Yeah, I don't buy it either.
Apparently my favored sleep position that I've been using ever since I learned how to sleep (and to be indulged in no longer, alas) doesn't show up on any of the personality tests or illustrations and forms a weird, face-down back twisting contortion found only in chalk outlines that could best be described as the Roadkill position: On my stomach, right cheek down, left arm and left leg up, right arm and right leg down.
I can't imagine why this would considered bad for the neck and shoulders.
So first I tried sleeping on my back, which felt like lying in a coffin until I tried knees bent up. Not bad, but promotes snoring and "hogging" the covers.
The curled up fetal position isn't too bad for an hour or so, but tends to make my uninjured shoulder ache, so that's out.
While experts disagree on which exact position is best, I have learned of one essential prop: pillows. Pillows between the knees keep me from rolling onto my stomach and are helping me learn a new life-long habit. Pain is a wonderful teacher indeed.
I'm hoping to re-learn how to sleep as blissfully as my Sancho porno-pup.

Responses varied to the video in Wall Street executives watch protests while drinking champagne from balconies (literally), but anyname detected a fear reaction in the balcony drinking behavior, and followed his own comment with an analysis of corresponding body language.
