This is unreal. Police have uncovered a murder for hire plot. A prison inmate tried to hire a hitman to kidnap and murder Michigan state rep. Barb Byrum (D).
An inmate who allegedly tried to hire a hitman to kidnap, torture and possibly kill state Rep. Barb Byrum (D-Onondaga) was served with an arrest warrant Tuesday.
MIRS reported Tuesday the inmate, who is from Mason, was charged with a one-count felony for homicide solicitation of murder.
The inmate will not be identified until arraignment.
Several media outlets previously reported the inmate has a history of similar crimes. The inmate is currently incarcerated on a solicitation to commit murder charge from 2006.
Unfortunately, Progress Michigan made themselves look very bad when they joked about the kidnapping plot last week, when it seemed like the threat was directed at a Republican member of the state house. Not cool. So not cool.
Update: So the reason the inmate targeted Byrum?
Why her?
Turns out the inmate seeking the gun for hire was from the Mason area, in her house district, and knew the name of only one lawmaker… her.
Talk about your lousy luck.
(Even that bit of news seems to have left some feelings hurt.)
