Puerto Rico Journalist Association (ASPPRO for its Spanish Acronym)and the Puerto Rico Photojournalists Association released a joint communique denouncing Police interference in the news coverage of the events taking place at the University of Puerto Rico.
It would seem that the Police is trying to prevent the people from seeing how they are arresting civil disobedients. The Police kicked cameras and forbid members of the press to enter the university campus,"
reads the document signed by Rafael Lenin Lopez and Luis Rolon, presidents of ASPPRO and the Photojournalists Association, respectively.

During the second day of civil disobedience at the UPR, both organizations demanded from Police Superintendent Jose Figueroa Sancha to stop this practice and instruct the officers accordingly.
The police state in Puerto Rico continues to be repressive against journalist. With the economic turmoil hitting Puerto Rico it can easily turn into the next Tunisia. Where the people took to the streets and got rid of their autocratic governments. Some say that the revolution in Puerto Rico can easily cross the shores into the United States.
The Police cannot determine how the press should cover the news, but the people do have the right to see how he [Figueroa Sancha] and the Police do theirs," reads the communication.
Protest are becoming increasingly common more and more in Puerto Rico. On a daily basis students are doing acts of civil disobedience against the controversial fee. The students were charged with obstruction of justice. And some were beaten bloody by the police as they tried to disperse the crowds.
