The bravery and determination of the Egyptian people is notable. People want to be free, and will risk most anything for it. Whether the US Government likes the result or not is another matter.
Stupid actions by stupid bureaucrats, cause most revolutions. To see a room full of stereotypical reticent lady gardeners become irate with a government agency is unusual- yet it's happening.
It takes virtually none of the bravery of the people of Cairo to send a message to a misguided leadership of the National Arboretum. All you need to do is write to your congress person, or contact the head of the USDA and ask why the Arboretum is in the name of saving money going to destroy one of it's prime attractions, it's azalea collection.
Though the azaleas are maintained by volunteers, the leadership of the Arboretum wants to save expenses by cutting them. Huh? It doesn't cost them anything!
Read here what William Ackerman, a proponent of developing and testing new plants has to say about the proposed reduction of the azalea collection.
This is an ongoing action, if you like azaleas, we urge you to visit the following sites and follow their suggestions for action: The Azalea Society of America and the more 'radical' Save the Azaleas
