All below the fold
If I have, having searched, missed this story and it's already been extensively Diaried, I'll take mine down :)
In a Top Story on the BBC this morning, the US Government has subpoenaed Twitter for personal details of people deemed connected to Wikileaks.
The US District Court in Virginia said it wanted information including user names, addresses, connection records, telephone numbers and payment details.
The names include Julian Assange and an Icelandic MP.
It further appears that the Government doesn't want us to know it is doing this, so obviously, it was leaked :)
The San Francisco-based website was given three days to respond was also told not to disclose that it had been served the subpoena, or the existence of the investigation.
The reporting restrictions were, it appears, removed on Wednesday
More as I get it.
There are quotes from Julian Assange in the piece, one of the more telling ones is this:
"If the Iranian government was to attempt to coercively obtain this information from journalists and activists of foreign nations, human rights groups around the world would speak out,"
Mrs Jonsdttir, the Icelandic MP who is also subject to the subpoena says:
"USA government wants to know about all my tweets and more since 1 November 2009. Do they realise I am a member of parliament in Iceland?"
I doubt they care very much!

Update 3: Thanks, Kossacks, for the Recs and the Rec. List. I try to follow this story as best I can, it has a feeling of being a very big deal. Clearly I am not alone as most of these Diaries hit the Rec. List, and with good reason.
