While watching the latest Jesse aka Ministry of Truth video I once again heard the right wing talking point that you can always work at Burger King. We need to develop better responses to these questions. Same goes for the "the bailout made a profit" bull that the talking head was spouting. But for the fast food job attack there is a very strong response.
In April McDonald's had a National Hiring Day. They hired 62,000 people out of 1,000,000 who applied. The truth is you can't "just go get a job at McDonald's or Burger King". The jobs aren't there. 950,000 people tried to get those jobs a few months ago and were not hired.
From Mike "The average worker on Wall Street makes $40,000" Bloomberg's namesake publication.
McDonald’s and its franchisees hired 62,000 people in the U.S. after receiving more than one million applications, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company said today in an e-mailed statement. Previously, it said it planned to hire 50,000.
Hit 'em with that and then ask, "So with your plan, where should the other 950,000 work?"
11:33 AM PT: Can someone check my work? I went to the Burger King corporate site and searched for job opportunities as a "Team Member" in the wall street zip code area as well as several of the other manhattan zip codes. Every search came back with no job openings currently available. That might be an interesting angle as well if Burger King wasn't hiring at all in the area.
