I don't know why I'm getting all these calls from different republican front groups lately but today's call was a robo call from the NRA.  No one in our household owns a gun or has over owned or shot one.  We are registered Democrats.  I'm still trying to figure out who sold what list that my phone number was on.  On to the gist of the call below the lovely squiggle (looks rather country French or Provencal).

About noon today (EDT) I received a recorded call from the NRA with a message from the capo tutti capi, Wayne LaPierre and I hope I spelled his name correctly.  Wayne was really excited and I could almost hear the spittle flying from his lips as he told of of the United Nation's plot to subvert our Constitution, change our laws and take away our guns.  Well, not mine since I don't have any but other Americans who have them.  The UN's plot had something to do with a peace initiative or peace plot that will somehow make an international law that will be applicable in the United States to confiscate personal firearms.  Or whatever.

Then there was a survey questioned asked by another ominous voice,  would I be against the UN and their sponsored action to make laws in our country and take away our firearms or not.  I didn't like the wording of the question or the options so instead of pressing 1 or 2 I pressed 0.

I got an older white lady on the line and she asked me if I was having trouble with the survey.  Now the fun began.  I said well sort of.  I didn't like the options or the way the question was worded.  She tried to hang up on me but I told to her hold she called me and quite frankly if they wanted support they should not sound so irrational.  I said it sounded silly and crazy that the UN would take away guns.  She started to get a little angry but I was really nice and polite.  I said now if you want people to support you, you have to be truthful and factual and no one is going to believe that the UN is invading our country to get our guns.  People will walk away if you sound so moonbat crazy.  You need to calm done and present your message in a more factual, rational, calm way.  I kept her on for about 5 minutes, she had to be civil to me because I was so nice and just trying to be helpful.  She said she'd give them the message.  I was just trying to help, hehehe.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Then ask them to prove they are not calling from Costa Rica or Mexico.

Ask they some obscure American history questions or baseball trivia, etc. See if they know the answer.

Then state flat out you think they are calling from Bulgaria.

whole affair you have a few options.

You may ask the caller to hold on while you

        1) have an emergency wisdom tooth pulling

        2) while you change costumes in order to attend to your upcoming ceremonial bull or chicken sacrifice

You may also at any time switch to speaking in the foreign langugage of your choice.

And if you really want to get crazy, inform your interested caller that the blue helmeted soldiers are just now driving into your estate, showing every sign of wanting to cart off your private arsenal, and hoping they don't notice the Patton tank parked in your garage.

caller asks you if you are reading from a script you may certainly ask the caller the same question, and request they answer first.

If pressed you may admit you got the script from the Internet, which is where you would assume the caller got their script from as well.

I sure wish progressives would take over the NRA.  How many memberships would it take to assume control?  It'd never way all those folks could keep their mouths shut until the takeover was a done deal.

    1. There's a lying ad at the top of the Kos sometimes that says my liar of an R congressional representative is trying to "keep Obama from disarming you." Like the President's done anything to disarm anyone...well, other than bin Laden, maybe that's what they mean?

    2. I have never seriously done this, but old fogies like me, remember the days of subscription cards in magazines? I once suggested to a friend of my mom's who was in serious distress because of a complete asshole in her life, that she fill out as many subscription cards as she could find, say, at the library in his name, and then check "bill me later" on all of them.

Just saying, maybe someone's seeking revenge and signing you up for RW bullcrap and writing "bill me later" on the cards. ;)

my info was sold from some list.  If you just go by where I live, you would assume I'd be a repug.  But that's the only thing that would make me a likely call.  It started out as a recorded call then when I pressed 0, I got a live person.  I stay on the line the whole time for a robo call so it cannot redial faster.  I keep a live person on the line for a long time just for fun and to tie up the line and the person from doing any other destructive business.

this particular drum for a long time.

For several years, the UN has discussed a small arms import/export treaty that would regulate sales of military grade small arms between all nations. Such controls already are in place in most of the Western democracies, the US included. The weapons in question are military stuff--RPGs, full auto rifles, etc. that civilians can't possess anyway, but that doesn't stop Wayne and his merry band of liars from claiming the eeevil UN is going to take yer guns.

I received this same call in, I believe, 2008.
