Good Morning ! I wanted to bring to your attention two events that are taking place today. First, the President is going to hold a press conference at 11 am EST today.
Second, we are finally getting a vote on a person to head te Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
As we all know, the repeal of Glass - Steagall and the lack of regulation led directly to the collapse of our economy. Consequently, the public needs and wants financial regulation reform. Hence, the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Republicans have obstructed this every step of the way as they are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Corporatacracy.
First, they have tried to limit the reach of this agency. They, they refused to even give Elizabeth Warren a vote, something I predict that they will regret since she will beat Scott Brown in a Presidential election year. Finally, Richard Cordray is getting a vote on the Senate Banking Committee.
This will be a party line vote in all likelihood.
Go Richard!
Well, it was party line: 12 yeas (us) and 10 nos (Rethuglicans).
Now, if we can get an up or down vote in the full Senate, we will finally have a great person to head this up. He has a fantastic track record in Ohio. So, this is welcome news.
I also read at TPM that the modified (5.6% tax raise on millionaires) version of Obama's American Jobs Act will get a vote in the Senate today. It should pass.
Embarassing Boehner and Cantor since there would oly be 1 problem chamber.
