To show that they're serious about nothing more than embarrassing President Obama, Senate Republicans are insisting on holding a vote on an early and now outdated version of the president's jobs plan. And according to Harry Reid,
rolling his eyes so hard it's visible on computer screens in transcriptions of his words:
“The problem we had is that the Republican leader offered the president’s jobs bill in a form that is not the president’s jobs bill,” Reid said. “Now, I’ve told him this morning, you want to vote on that, fine. We’ll do that. We’ll have a vote on that today. It can either be a motion to suspend the rules, or it can be a regular amendment.”
So the bill will fail in a symbolic vote, a few of the Democratic Asshole Caucus will get quoted using Republican talking points, and those reporters who are either partisan Republican enough to be on board with the "embarrass the president" agenda or ignorant enough to think this was a real vote will report that the president's jobs plan was voted down in the Senate, confusing casual observers when the real bill comes up for a real vote. Our government at work!
