There were a couple of local reports, last night, on the economic extreme troubles that have only been expanding.
There have been many over the past decade and with each one I can use this technology to visit many other local communities, all over the United States, and read or watch reports of similar or worse.
If people aren't seeing them or reading about them in their communities these are but only a few that actually get attention while many are going on, some communities worse and others better but with similar growing numbers on many issues just plain too many to be covered.
This is now the America we live in, and certainly splitting from any once thought of United States, rapidly!
Union County delivers record number foreclosures
MONROE, N.C. - October 6, 2011 - The Union County Sheriff's Office serves 400 foreclosure notices a month and they say it's taking a toll on their time and resources.
Officer Brandon Wicker works in the Civil Process Bureau and says it's astounding how much foreclosures have increased over the years. He also serves restraining order and child custody papers, so he says the overwhelming increase in foreclosures has required more manpower to get the work done.
Officer wicker spends his days driving around Union County delivering the notices. In 2007 they served just under 400 notices all year. Last year they served an estimated 5,300 homes.
As NewsChannel 36 rode along with Officer Wicker we saw that some are homeowners who haven't paid while some are renters who are being forced out by landlords not paying the mortgage. Wiker says there's no particular neighborhood and social class—all classes have been hit by the economy.
"Anywhere from mobile homes…all the way up to million dollar homes, so it’s just a wide range of people and incomes. The economy is really hitting people hard," said Officer Wicker. read more>>>
While watching this next one the first thought I had was the South considered the 'Bible Belt' as many, especially the hired politicians, preach about the teachings of 'jesus' yet the numbers growing as to the issue of those dying and not being claimed because families can't afford funerals. And the one main group of 'christians', though not considered so by the huge majority of the 'real christians', trying to help some of these families are the extremely small minority, in the south, of the Catholic faith.
Sour economy even hurting dead people
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - October 6, 2011 - The economy is also having an impact on the dead. The number of bodies that go unclaimed is growing.
It's a decision no loved one wants to make—to turn their back on family because they can't afford the cost of a funeral.
Right now there are 25 unclaimed bodies in Mecklenburg County.
“Families are struggling daily to live, and for those families, dying isn't part of the equation,” said Sharon Davis with Catholic Social Services.
And it does add up. Costs can range from $700 to thousands of dollars depending on whether the body is cremated or buried.
Groups like Catholic Social Services attempt to help those in Mecklenburg County. They say the need continues to grow every year. read more>>>
As I said above, issues like these are going on in communities all over this country, this society isn't just collapsing, it already has!!
