The Occupy OKC (Oklahoma City) General Assembly meeting tonight had over 300 people tonight. This was the second GA and the occupation is starting Monday (some details still pending).
I've been an organizer here since 2003 and that many people is almost unprecedented. And they are mostly people that we oldtimers have never seen (which of course makes us wonder what we've been doing wrong).
I was extremely impressed with the knowledge and abilities of those who took leading roles in this first week of getting it going here. And I and the other longtime activists are very excited that finally, something seems to have clicked.
Reps present from Occupy Tulsa and Norman. A friend went to the one in Dallas yesterday. It's in the heart of the Bible Belt.
Here's the link to a local news report.
A friend had to leave early and called to tell me that quite a few police cars were just around the corner, out of site of the attendees, but clearly concerned enough to be ready for any "trouble." I think the organizers did convey to the group how to react to the police, but I wonder how cops that are not very experienced with large crowds voicing dissent will handle things.
Really tired, so not able to stay and chat about this. Just wanted to get the report out as soon as possible.
