Does my title sound combative? It is in a non violent spirit. First, my world model says that we all operate using world models. Second my world model says that the reason we have such apparent differences out there in political world is because there are differing world models. Next my world model says that the apparent differences are just that - apparent. My model is holistic. It says that nothing stands alone but everything we tweek has consequences beyond what we tweek. That is one major difference in political perspective. The first place it shows up is in the so called right/left divide. The right sees events happening because of direct cause. That is some agent acts and there is a direct consequence. This is the opposite of holistic. It is reductionist and can easily be traced back to people like Descartes and those they learned from. Read on below and I'll spell this out and relate to the Occupy America movement we are into these days.
Yes the direct cause world model divides the world into parts that can be handled. Does this only happen on the right? Well, just think about that as you move around here in Kos. How do we operate? What is the purpose of tags if not to isolate the various "issues" so that we can understand them better. Isolating them, putting them in boxes, is a process that severs vital links and connections unconsciously and looses all that reality.
Lets get to the heart of the matter. What are the differences between the right and left, the democrats and republicans? I see you envisioning a long list of isolated points you can use to show me that they are vastly different. I then can show you that your world model needs that to be true. How easy is it to accept the idea, which seems crystal clear to me, that the two party electoral system is a way of stabilizing all that is wrong with our system? I suspect the very idea is foreign to so many out there. Never mind that on a yearly basis, usually in November, people's resources and energy is funneled into a process of electing someone who you had no choice in having as a choice in the first place.
Now we can have a comparison. Occupy Wall street is a product of the system that everyone defends as being very "democratic". It is a reaction to the realization that it is anything but democratic. It is a reaction to the failure of elections to bring about change. It is a reaction to the ability of 1% of the "people" to control the world and ignore and laugh at the other 99%. I have said this for a long long time. It is consistent with my world model. It was laughed at and scorned every time. Now so many others have begun to say it.
The times are changing. My world model says that we do not need a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. What does yours say? And for how long?
3:29 PM PT: The word "issues" has disappeared from the poll. It should say" dividing politics into issues"
