Tired of screwing over American consumers, Wal-Mart has decided to bend over the Chinese people as well.
According to Xinhua, the state run media giant, "Twelve Wal-Mart stores in southwest China have been ordered to close after they were accused of fraudulently selling ordinary pork as organic pork."
WallyWorld stands accused of selling 63,500 kg of falsely labelled pork over the past two years, earning profits of 730,000 yuan (about $114,500) for the folks down in Bentonville, Arkansas. Granted, that's not a lot of pork, but it looks like the Chinese regulators have taken it pretty seriously. Not only did they close the 12 Super-Stores, but levied a about 2.60 million yuan fine. That's about $409,000 US the Waltons won't be able to stuff down their gullets.
Wal-Mart has been punished 21 times since 2006 for selling substandard food, the official Xinhua news agency reported Monday.
My friends and family in China are already suffering from highly inflated food prices, but I guess it was just not enough for Wal-Mart. Ain't globalism grand?
Pig fuckers.
