For the last few weeks we have been watching a real grassroots movement that could be the start of the change those who live in the land of reality have been posting about. All it takes is a spark that ignites the passions of those who have been receiving the short end of the stick since the Reagan for the rich revolution. Well, giving those who have most of the power and wealth more power and wealth cannot be called a "revolution" but that discussion can be held another day.
The rich are scared. You can see it on the vicious verbal attacks by their Lieutenants on the traditonal news networks. You can see the fear on the rightwing republicCONs blogs that convince the uninformed Teapublicans that the 99'ers are just dirty unamerican hippies who want a free ride. They don't show them that their is wide swoth of people with different problems and issues. Almost all want the American Dream. The dream to get a job and make a livable wage, be able to be a single income family if necessary, have protections in the work place.
If I heard correctly, at last count over 279 cities are having Occupy movements. Six days ago it was 148. October 3rd it was 30 cities. If each city only had 500 people attend there would be 139,500 people. I haven't been able to find actual total numbers but I would not doubt that there are over 250,000 people attending at this time.
IMHO, if the 99'ers want actual change then they must get involved in the political process. I have read many, many, many posts and comments on how the political process is corrupt. That all politicians are corrupt. I won't completley disagree with you. But if you want to clean up the political system then I beg you to get involved in the political system and help clean it up.
I am the Chair of my County Democratic League. I am a progressive, I am an Idealist and I am always willing and have in the past debated Teapublicans individually and on the radio until they cried uncle.
I am also a big fan of Thom Hartman and I took his advice. He advises to get involved and change the system. If we want to change the system to be fair to all, then I need those who are not involved to get involved. We need those of you, the 70% that don't vote to get out and vote. We need the 90% of you that don't get involved in the primaries to get involved.
