At one time the United States had prohibition. This meant that alcohol was basically illegal. American citizens fought Prohibition for a long time, but one thing they didn't have to do was justify their alcohol use. Alcohol kills many people every year, yet we never hear people who like to drink alcohol justifying its health benefits. We know damn well that it kills thousands in automobile accidents and many other ways. But nobody ever had to prove that it was “medicinal”, or have dispensaries where you had to get a doctor's excuse in order to buy it.
I'm really tired of this charade; I believe that there are enough people in the United States who would like to smoke marijuana legally that we could be considered a voting bloc. I'm surprised that on this supposedly “liberal” site there hasn't been a sweeping call to finally legalize what should never have been made illegal in the 1st place.
Am I the only one? I really feel sometimes like I'm all alone in my activism. I feel certain that there are other people on this site, and in this nation, who like to smoke grass. Do we really not have enough votes in this country to finally legalize it? Or is it true that grass smokers, lulled into quietness by the fact that marijuana can be easily bought illegally and by the intimidation of the misguided and unnecessary laws that aim to keep us quiet and cowed, refuse to finally stand up and be counted as the huge voting bloc that we are?
I'm surprised that politicians have not taken advantage of this huge voting bloc; I'm surprised that more of them haven't jumped on this bandwagon, but I believe it's because the unjust laws condemning marijuana have muzzled free debate on this.
Or maybe I'm just misinformed; maybe there's just too few of us, or maybe we're just too sheeplike to actually stand up and make a difference. And so the charade continues; criminal violence flourishes, drug cartels make enormous profits while killing hundreds if not thousands of people, and I can't even grow a few plants.
It would be sad, if it wasn't so disgusting.
Update; please, at least vote in the poll and satisfy my curiosity, Thank you.
