When arguing with people about the current Occupy Wall Street protests, the main talking point used to by opponents is "Why don't they just go get a job!" because apparently for some reason when the financial crisis hit, the main effect was that it made 9% of our population really lazy. As always, talking facts back to people who have no idea what they're talking about is easy and frustrating at the same time. What I have begun using is the point of asking them if they believed those who protested and marched during the Great Depression were also just unemployed lazy people. Drawing some comparisons to a crisis they might actually recognize as a crisis might help do the trick. This is just me rambling on about things though, so sorry for the shortness, but maybe it can be an effective message to use?
