Romney has outraised Perry overall, but has the same cash on hand (Mario Anzuoni / Reuters)
So Mitt Romney had a fairly decent fundraising quarter,
taking in $14.2 million. That's less than the $17 million Rick Perry raised and less than Romney's $18 million haul last quarter, but nonetheless puts makes him the runaway leader in total fundraising on the GOP side with a total of $32 million.
Romney, however, has a little less than $15 million cash on hand. That's roughly the same amount as Rick Perry has. So even though Romney has raised twice as much as Perry, he's got the same amount of cash—and he's burning through it at a much faster clip. (Perry has spent 12% of the money he's raised, while Romney has spent nearly 55%.)
Romney was also far out raised by President Obama, who took in $70 million last quarter, but the most important statistic is probably this: while Romney had an impressive 55,947 contributors, the breadth of his support was dwarfed by President Obama, who received more than 600,000 contributions last quarter. So while Obama raised nearly five times as much money, he did it from 12 times as many people.
