Missoula, the home of the University of Montana, is located in western Montana and is considered to be the liberal heart of the state. Occupy Missoula has been camping at the Missoula County Court House for the past two weeks.
Occupy Missoula is a nonviolent movement for accountability in the United States government.
We gather in solidarity with the ongoing protest in New York City, Occupy Wall Street, and the growing number of cities whose people will no longer sit back watching corporate and special interests run their government. We are citizens of the United States, and this country is ours. We will take it back.
Some of the Signs:
The Camp:
Dogs:
This is Montana. That means that all public events have to include dogs.
The woozle shown above ran up to me like I was his long-lost significant human, turned around, and then sat on my foot, waiting patiently for the affection that he knew would be showered on him.
The Police:
The Missoula County Court House is a traditional hanging out place for homeless people—a segment of our population that is certainly growing.
The police presence shown above was not about the demonstration, but the officers poured out a couple of cans of beer which were being openly consumed and arrested a homeless man.
