One of the most influential movements within Hip Hop (and music, for that matter) during the late 80s/early 90s was led by a collection of artists known as the Native Tongues.
Their music is beyond heady, as it's full impact may still not be known for decades, when the geniuses of tomorrow discover some of these precious albums in their parents' collections. Although we are already fortunate to have enjoyed those who have spawned from this musical movement; artists like Mos Def, Common and The Roots are indebted to the pavement the Native Tongues put down for them.
