I have written many blogs about wealthy people in The Non-Trad Manifesto http://www.blondmama.blogspot.com. Some people have an erroneous notion that wealthy people are happy, they aren't! The only happy wealthy people are those that have a healthy attitude about wealth and know how to remain focused on the common good so you don't waste your wealth. I have nothing against wealth, I would LOVE to be wealthy but I would use it wisely. I would live comfortably so would my family but much of my wealth would be used to start businesses to employ people! I don't need several homes, yachts, and cars(I don't drive any way)! I would feel happiness when I opened the door to my business and see my workers coming in to start their jobs.I would think to myself,"Just think I am helping someone be the best they can be!"
The people that get their wealth from ill gotten gain and those who have never had to struggle take money for granted. The neauvo riche sometimes let their wealth go to their head, they can get very snobby! Wealth can be addicting just like alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs! The heads of corporations and the denizens of Wall Street squander their largess on drunkathon parties and drugs! All that money could have been spent helping the poor with jobs or funding health care clinics for those who have no insurance.
Wealthy people shouldn't cut themselves off from the general population either. They can live with a mixed population so they are living in "the real world". It would do them good to shop at Walmart and eat at Ihop and Perkins. They need to get off their high petootie!
Finally, There are some wealthy good guys. Bill Gates, formerly of Microsoft, donated half his income to help those in need! Warren Buffington has been an adviser to President Obama and agrees to the idea that the wealthy should pay their fair share in taxes. Andrew Carnegie created the Carnegie Library System in the USA. One of his libraries is in Hayward Wisconsin where I grew up. Will there ever be a Donald Trump Memorial Hospital?
