These are very serious grownups who would never, ever pay any attention to a sex scandal. Ever.
While most of the country thinks it's probably a good idea to know whether a presidential candidate has a history of sexually harassing women, there's one group who doesn't give a damn:
House Republicans.
“There’s no evidence of anything,” Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.) said after a meeting between Cain and the GOP members of Georgia’s House delegation. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s a non-issue.”
In case that doesn't settle it for you, there's more:
And Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), who invited Cain to the health care meeting earlier in the day, said that he would “have no problem if he’s the standard-bearer for our side.”
“I think he’s a good person with a good heart who’s doing what he thinks is the right thing,” Burgess said.
But this takes the cake:
“Tell us what it is and then let’s move on and talk about what you’re doing for the country,” Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) said of the charges against Cain. “Everybody’s got stuff. Your profession’s got to grow up. We as politicians need to grow up. The American people need to grow up.”
Yes, that would be the Joe Walsh. Deadbeat dad and deadbeat driver Joe Walsh. The guy who thinks refusing to support his kids is just your typical "average guy" problem.
But really, he has a point. We've all got stuff. Who doesn't have a judge ordering him to provide for his kids? Who hasn't had their driver's license suspended three times in two years for failing to pay their car insurance?
And really, who among us hasn't cost their employer $80,000 in hush money for multiple sexual harassment claims?
These guys are right. We should all grow up and take a page from House Republicans, who would never waste their time focusing on sex scandals. Yep, these grownups are a model for us all.
