Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread
We're here every morning between 6:30 and 7:00. Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanent or just once in awhile. With the autopublish feature you can set it and forget it. Quite often the diarist de jour shows up much later, that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Just let us know in the comments.
It's been a quiet week here. Yesterday I finished transferring my bank account by going to the local Suntrust Bank and closing my checking and savings accounts. The woman wasn't even surprised, but did express some sadness as the accounts were over 13 years old. She also said that they had lost a lot of accounts. Hey, I called Suntrust before I opened the new account and asked if there were any plans to rescind the fee, and at the time there wasn't, so THERE!
The savings account paid 0.04%. That is more than 100 times less than what a savings account paid in interest when I was 4 years old. I'm not planning to open a savings account at my new bank, because I have an online savings account that pays 10 times what the new bank pays, which is more than double what Suntrust was paying. Still, at 0.9%, that's still not a whole lot. So, it was uneventful and I walked out with all my money in cash because they charged for a cashier's check, of course.
What else, oh, my last radiation treatment is Thursday. Yay!!!!
Lastly, since I was craving Smokey Black Bean Soup and Lime Cream, I am making a batch right now, using my mom's ancient pressure cooker. It's a recipe from a 2002 edition of Vegetarian Times. I never fool with the tortillas and lime cream, because it's fabulous just as it is. For those of you who have never used a pressure cooker, it's like the microwave of my mom's and grandmother's generation. It cuts the cooking time for this recipe from almost 2 hours to 15 minutes. I must add that I have never had anything explode.
It's going to be a beautiful fall day here, and I plan on enjoying part of it outside. Jibber and jabber at your leisure.
