Screw the economy, Mitch McConnell says his top priority is beating President Obama
Some turtles I know have more brains than to make an argument
this weak:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor Tuesday that the White House intentionally “designed” President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs bill to “fail” with the hopes of making Republicans appear “intransigent.”
This was not — I repeat — not a serious effort to do something about jobs and the economy,” McConnell said. “It was a serious effort to help the president’s re-election campaign by making Republicans in Congress look intransigent.”
You know what, Mitch? If you don't want to look "intransigent" ... then don't be intransigent! If you don't want to look like you're sabotaging the economy ... then don't sabotage the economy! And if you think rejecting the jobs bill makes you look bad ... then don't reject it!
There really isn't any reason for Republicans to say no to President Obama's jobs bill other than politics. It consists entirely of broadly popular proposals, many supported by more than two-thirds of the public. Check out CNN's polling on each of the key provisions:
That's an overwhelmingly popular set of proposals, yet not a single Republican could be convinced to vote for it. Not a single one! And why won't they vote for it? It's because they want President Obama to fail! According to
a recent poll, just 39% of Republicans say they want Obama's policies to succeed. 51% prefer failure!
The crazy thing is they want those policies to fail even though they support them. And the problem is even worse with Republicans in the House and Senate. 100% of them want Obama's policies to fail and they want them to fail because they think the failure of his policies will help them politically. They don't care about the country.
It's no wonder that according to our latest poll, 50% of the public now believes Republicans are intentionally sabotaging the economy to hurt President Obama. They believe it because it's true!
