When I wrote earlier about Herman Cain saying he no longer regrets referring to former House Speaker and current Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi as "Princess Nancy," I hadn't yet seen the video of Cain's backtrack. Now I have ... and wow. If this is how he treats women—and people in general—it's no wonder he's facing the problems he's facing today.
CAIN: I apologize for calling her Princess Pelosi. If that’s the biggest story you all want, okay, I apologize. I apologize for calling her Princess Pelosi. I didn’t see anybody, you know, I remember when Speaker Pelosi called me and the tea party people AstroTurf. I don’t remember anybody asking about that story.
REPORTER: Why do you apologize? Is it insensitive to call her that?
CAIN: So you all could stop asking me about it, okay?
Talk about narcissism. In Cain's own words, the thing that motivates him isn't doing the right thing—it's sparing himself the hassle of dealing with the media. Maybe that kind of attitude worked for him as President of the National Restaurant Association (though I doubt it, given that he left his job there with six months left on his term), but it's not what people expect from a leader.
