I usually get very few phone calls, but it's election season. We just finished an election in San Francisco that had 16 people running for mayor and 9 more for sheriff and district attorney. Tuesday it seemed like every one of them decided to give me a "personal" call and ask for my vote. Either that or they had their best friends give a call. I can't even count how many times I hung up on the recordings, but I think it was close to ten. Follow me below the squiggle to hear what happened today...
The phone rang, and the first thing that flashed in my mind was, "Oh, the election is over. Who could be calling?" So I picked up the phone and said hello, and a voice said, "This is Rob Zerban." My mind was racing because the name was very familiar, and I figured out it was Rob Zerban, who is running against Congressman Paul Ryan. I would have hung up on the recording, but there was a pause after the introduction. It was a live person. What was he doing calling me? Well it turns out he is thanking everyone who has donated to his campaign. In person. (Well, on the phone.) I thought that was an interesting way to campaign. He said the polls were looking pretty good for a year out with a well-known opponent. I believe he said he was 6 points back at the moment, but don't quote me on it.
Anyway, I decided to send along another contribution, so this method worked on me at least :D. He sent a follow-up email as well. Interesting idea.
