In response to the charge that voting in such a poll lends credence to mainstream outlets that we should instead marginalize, my response from the comments:
I agree...however, it is important, in a battle of public opinion, to recognize that mainstream outlets are influential in shaping national discussions.
Does a vote like this lend credence to TIME? Maybe.
Would the "99%" being voted as Person of the Year outweigh that?
Absolutely.
It would generate much chatter.
