Yes, folks, he's running — the guy who led the congressional intrusion into the death of the poor brain-dead woman a few year ago is back and is bff with James Dobson. Well, he doesn't really expect to win; it's just that if he says he is running, he can put an ad together that says anything he wants, and TV stations have to run it. Wow. What an opportunity...
I just got this fun email from Conservative Contacts, who send me their stuff for vetting :-)
LET THE FULL WEIGHT OF THIS SINK IN ON YOU. Federal law requires that TV stations air the ads of federal candidates - uncensored and unedited - beginning 45 days before a primary, and 60 days before a general election. Whatever the candidate wants to show on TV for that election cycle, the stations are required to air.
...
So...how does this apply to pummeling Obama politically?
The only person who can say the truth about Obama UNCENSORED and UNEDITED on the TV is...a federal candidate.
...
That is why I decided to run for President in a Democrat primary.
I am running for PRESIDENT. As a federal candidate, I can say whatever I want in a TV campaign ad, and the TV stations cannot stop me!
...
Is he a baby killer through abortion? Yes!
Is he coddling Sharia Law and Islamic terrorists with his policies? Yes!!
...
Is he the most corrupt President we have ever had? Yes!!!!
OK then...would you like to say these thing NOW, clearly, and without pulling punches? Unedited, and uncensored?
Well you can! Through this campaign!

It's going to be a fun year, isn't it? Sometimes free speech is a real drag.
This kind of couples into the Stolen Valor Act, which the
Supreme Court is considering now. The issue there is whether any speech - lie or not - can be restricted in a political campaign. The Stolen Valor act makes it illegal to claim you are a war medal winner if you're not, and the case is specifically about someone who falsely claimed that in a political campaign. The consensus seems to be that the Supreme Court will not allow any restriction on speech in a political campaign. So we get Randall Terry, using that freedom as a way to say whatever he wants, true or not, about Obama.
I understand the reluctance to limit free speech, especially political speech. And i guess I don't care if you stand on the street corner and lie. Lord knows I've done that myself.. But it shouldn't be a license to raise money and purchase air time to incite anger by telling lies.
