The
story:
Rae Emerson, deputy superintendent at Ford’s Theatre, which is a national historic site under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, has penned a scathing appraisal of O’Reilly’s “Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever.” In Emerson’s official review, which I’ve pasted below, she spends four pages correcting passages from O’Reilly’s book before recommending that it not be offered for sale at Ford’s Theatre because it is not up to quality standards.
Me, yesterday:
O'Reilly is going to react to this review of his book the only way he reacts to anything: he's going to declare it a conspiracy against him. Just watch.
Bill O'Reilly's response to the review, today:
The Fox News host told POLITICO that the attack on his book about President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination is “a concerted effort by people who don’t like me to diminish the book.” [...]
“We well understand our enemies are full of rage at our success.”
Yes. The reason someone was able to write out four pages of historical inaccuracies in your "history book" was because you have enemies. Devious, rage-filled enemies. We all knew it.
I admit, teasing Bill O'Reilly is a very satisfying thing. I know that makes me one of his "enemies," but O'Reilly predictably reacts with such wonderful bluster. His ego is enormous, and his self-perceived brilliance is overwhelming, so anyone who is not suitably impressed with either just has to be part of the massive, all-encompassing plot against him. It's all because of his enemies, you see. His enemies in government, and in the media, and in the Park Service bookstores.
Oh, Bill. I know I'll miss you when you finally go away ... but I still can't help but wish you would.
