Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
NOTE: Bowing to that newfangled DK4 stuff :-), you also may send nominations to the Top Comments group email. If you don't see a nomination you made to there in the diary, please pipe up - it means we're still trying to remember not to forget to check!
Anybody in the mood for a bit of cover music? Follow me below the dingledoodlesquiggliedividerthingie fold...
When I'm in the car, which seems to be a LOT these days :-), I usually have this station on. It plays acoustic music only, and one of the great benefits is there are lots of cover versions done. You all know I have a thing for those :-)). Over the last few days I heard several, ergo the Muse decided YOU get a cover music Top Comments! Just for variety, I decided to look for TWO covers of each song, hope you like at least one! (So the diary loads even for those with graphics-challenged browsers, all the videos are to be found by clicking on the artist names)
I'm on Fire - Original artist Bruce Springsteen. Heather Nova does a beautiful and gender-swapped version. John Mayer does another one I really like. Please see my tip jar for the truly sweet one, though...
Fast Car - The original by Tracy Chapman is so perfect, thinking about covers makes me nervous. Then I heard these, the first by Boyce Avenue (and which I heard them perform live last month) and the second by Chris Daughtry & Kelly Clarkson.
So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry) - Original by sob REM. I admit to googling to find a cover by HEM solely so I could share the absolutely stunning one by Grant-Lee Phillips. FYI - HEM's version is gorgeous too. Really. Wow. I love doing music TCs for just this reason.
Got covers you like? Share em!!!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From Gentle:
Nominating this comment by thenekkidtruth for the sheer pun of it, but also for its accuracy. Everything about Newt IS old. And here he is again. From Jed Lewison's Iowa poll: Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul join Herman Cain and Mitt Romney in four-way race.
From blue aardvark:
Nominating Gooserock's comment in my diary Pizza Sauce is a vegetable. Why? Because mocking the corruption helps it not hurt so much.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
While looking for my own nomnoms, I came across Shadowmage36, who wanted to nominate drewfromct's reply to ssmt's comment. So here it is :)
What happens when the powers that be try to quash Occupy? Ask SouthernLiberalinMD, rugbymom and Horace Boothroyd III.
