The eraser of emails continues his pattern of lies and deceit with his first TV ad.
"If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose."
One small problem with that sound bite.
Think Progress:
The Romney campaign’s very first television ad, released this evening, dishonestly presents a 2008 McCain campaign quote as the words of President Obama. The ad features a voice-over of Obama saying “if we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.” Then-candidate Obama indeed said those words, perhaps dozens of times during the closing month of the 2008 campaign. The only problem? Obama was actually quoting the words of a strategist from Sen. John McCain’s campaign.
Fluffington Toast:
The full Obama quote, included in a Romney press release as part of an Oct. 16, 2008 speech at a Londonderry, N.H., campaign stop, was this: "Senator McCain's campaign actually said, and I quote, 'If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose.'"
Weak-sauce defense on Politico:
We used that quote intentionally to show that President Obama is doing exactly what he criticized McCain of doing four years ago.
Uh-huh. In other words, "Yeah, it's deceptive, so sue us. Phthbhthbthhbthbt."
To Mitt Romney's emulation of a weathervane with respect to policy, we can now add a total lack of integrity, as well as a rather low opinion of the intelligence of the electorate.
