Inspired by the Occupy movement, and all of the brave persons standing up and being counted, I came up with my own version of the classic protest song, and wanted to share it.
(Note- The melody is the classic, Like Johnny Cash or Pete Seeger would sing. I have changed the format up a bit though, with more of a verse-chorus-verse setup. Anyways, not too difficult to figure out once you read it.
We Shall Not Be Moved (Occupy Edition)
We shall not
we shall not be moved
we shall not
we shall not be moved
just like a tree that's standing by the water
we shall not be moved
I read it in the paper that they're marching on the Wall
and all of us together, should stand up and heed the call!
because this fight is for the future of our nation
we shall not be moved!
refrain
They think if they abuse us we will all just go away
to the homes that they have taken, to the jobs where they wont pay-
but if they think that that is plenty well then I'm just gonna stay!
we shall not be moved!
refrain
The wealthy will not save us they don't care about our cries
and government wont see us till we stand up- till we rise!
until we should shout "we are the 99 percent!" up to the skies!
we shall not be moved!
refrain
If you join up in the struggle against those who robbed us blind
does that make you part of some disorganized and faceless tide? NO!
It makes you an American who's fighting for the law!
We shall not be moved!
refrain
This movement will grow stronger with every swing of their batons
they do not understand we can see through their pepper fogs
and all their careful lies will come a tumblin' down, down, down!
we shall not be moved!
We shall not
we shall not be moved
we are the 99 percent!
and we shall not be moved!
just like a tree that's standing by the water
we shall not be moved!!!
