From the (extremely) temporary home office of Milford, Massachusetts comes a stand-in edition of (SWOOSH!!) Cheers and (budda-budda-budda-GONG!) Jeers! Please give this a recommend so that that we can have our daily fix of cheering and jeering while BiPM takes a well-deserved break for the holiday. And now for the main course...
Cheers to families at the holidays! Wherever you are, I hope you had time with loved ones and a good Thanksgiving. My daughter and I traveled to Connecticut for the holiday, we had dinner at my sister's place. I made the shrimp cocktail, one sister made the main course and the other made pies - my mom was there, as well as my nephew and his fiance. Check out the table, loaded up with the fine china my mother has had for years:
See you below the orange squiggle of power for more...
Cheers to an unlikely target: The Texas redistricting commission! In an act of typical Republican overreach, they tried for a Perrymander (ha!) that was so unfair to Latinos (the fastest growing segment of the Texas population) that they got smacked down in court. And mega-cheers to the new map, which puts several seats into play for 2012 - see this morning's election roundup for more info. (Note to Mr. Soros: make sure to get those checks to the moles we placed on the redistricting commission...)
Jeers to police use of (what they call) non-lethal force. From Lt. Pike hosing down the Occupiers from point blank range to the tazing death of 61 year old Roger Anthony, a long overdue conversation about overreach by the authorities seems poised to get underway. Of course, on Fox News, pepper spray is essentially a food product, prompting some pretty wonderful ridicule:

Cheers to the Arizona court system for standing up to Governor Jan Brewer (R-Naturally) in yet another typical case of Republican overreach, when she tried to fire Colleen Mathis, the head of the non-partisan redistricting committee in that state. As someone who generally likes brewers, I'm very diappointed in this one...
Cheers to redistricting in Massachusetts! While I had entertained the thought of my rep switching from Richard Neal to Jim McGovern, it looks like I may end up with Barney Frank! I've always loved him - here a seriously wonderful moment from the Tea Party summer of 2009:
Does Barney speak for me? You bet he does!
Cheers to GOP indecision! A front page post shows how the wide field of opponents helps Mitt Romney stay ahead of the not-Romneys. He seems to be inching closer and closer to the nomination, so it's time to uncork a favorite limerick from the 2008 cycle:
There once was a candidate named Mitt,
He was quite the notable twit,
His doggie, named Seamus,
Would later be famous,
For covering Mitt's wagon with shit!
We need to get some new limericks going for 2012, so write some poetry in the comments and invite us to rec your work. I'll send a donation of $20.12 to to OTB candidate of the Kossack whose poetry gains the most recommends - have a blast!! Hhhhmmm, what rhymes with pepper spray?
Bill will be back on Tuesday, and commonmass will be holding down the fort on Monday. What are you cheering and jeering bout this holiday weekend?
