This will be almost all photos tonight as I only stopped by for half an hour after work and have been a bit out of the loop due to Thanksgiving travel, but I did know we had a tent action planned well in advance. Personally, I think occupying a home with an owner facing eviction highlights the foreclosure issue better, and we do have another one of those starting this weekend, but for visibility and a broader message, it's still important to do actions downtown.
With this video and other networking, the word got out to supporting organizations like my union, too, photos of sister local AFSCME 3800's tent and more below the squiggle
I missed most of the speakers since I work until 6 and had a hard time getting close enough to even see who was speaking, so I started with the long view
but kept wiggling my way around to get a better look at the tents and their signage
the guy holding this sign was waving it very enthusiastically!
and thank goodness for the signs making it slightly less obvious that there must have been a sale on Disney Princess tents!
bright and bold
tents were still going up while I was there
I think this sign was around before Black Friday but waffle iron rioters would do well to remember this
ran into all sorts of people I know, Occupiers I've talked to, union brothers and sisters, and witchy friends. One of them combined his cooking skills with his friend's purchasing power to bring a big pot of beef teriyaki to the People's Plaza
at 7pm I was leaving with one of my union sisters and she stopped to talk the county law enforcement officers and express some union solidarity. We commiserated on our lack of pay increases in recent years, and they actually hope Occupiers will be able to do something about the income inequality.
and while we have been on a mild weather streak, as I uploaded these pictures, the snowflakes have begun to fall
as of this writing the tents are still up, will update if needed
Thu Dec 01, 2011 at 8:39 AM PT: tents were taken last night, some were reassembled in front of city hall last night, that ran into trouble also, resulting in several arrests
Fri Dec 02, 2011 at 6:49 PM PT: I am now hearing Hennepin County tried to clear OccupyMpls off the plaza today, don't have much detail yet but it seems they were not successful!
