This is a short one. Here is my hypothesis, ladies and gentlemen...in a quaint little rhyme.
Oh Rupert, from whom do you cheer
While your network supports greed and spews great fear?
Savaging Romney with a knife in the spine
While letting Pillsbury move to the front of the line.
Oh, Rupert, you savvy media seer
Why shove Baier so forcefully up Romney's rear?
Now Rachel and co are debating who will be the one
To win the nomination when such wicked times will come
Oh Rupert, you are such a grand puppeteer
Pulling strings and spreading misery and conservative cheer
Pillsbury will win, so the dough-boy says with pride
And you want him to, and we wonder: "Why?"
Ok. So why? Fox News is more effective to their listeners when Obama is in the White House. It's like a 1hr drama show they might run, except they don't have to pay the star and they can run garbage about the President 24/7 and guess what? People watch.
Obama is probably the best thing to happen to Fox News in terms of revenue. Like with Clinton - they harped on him day and night. For Pete's sake (thanks Mitt), if Sarah Palin announces she is going to run on his network, he would have supported her 100%. And she's the most ridiculous potential candidate for President I can think of. Of course, this year's crop is definitely giving her a run for her money. Does anyone think that Newt has a snowball's chance of winning a general election? Repeal child labor laws! HA! That will definitely play well across America.
Romney has a lot of problems, but if the economy keeps floundering as the election rolls around, his perceived expertise in that area might help him - and FOX butchers him and then the anchor goes on air to spread the behind-the-scenes dirt.
Awesomeness! The tea party votes in primaries - they have a big say in who gets nominated, but a smaller say in who gets elected. Since they're so rabid, they're going to play to win their way, not for the good of the party - which is what establishment GOPers are probably thinking.
Obama in office is the greatest thing they could have ever hoped for. He continues Murdoch's tax break and he draws in a ton of angry, yet committed viewers who support the network by not only watching, but some of them are in positions to advertise and enrich him further. I don't think he wants Obama to lose. That would be like Hugh Laurie leaving House. Or...Michael C. Hall leaving Dexter.
President Obama is the star of Fox News - and until he can get a bigger star (he had hopes for the Palinator) he'll stick with Obama. If Obama wasn't in office, what would they talk about? They are freaking out that Barney Frank is retiring. LOL. Murdoch is about having as many targets to attack as possible because that probably helps him make more money.
