President Obama
says no Christmas vacation for Congress if Republicans can't get their act together on extending the payroll tax cut:
President Barack Obama threatened Friday to keep Congress in Washington through Christmas to pass legislation extending payroll tax cuts.
“We need to get this done,” Obama said during an event on building efficiency just blocks from the White House. “I expect it’s going to get done before Congress leaves otherwise Congress may not be leaving. We can all spend Christmas here together.”
Obama criticized Senate Republicans for voting Thursday against proposals to extend the current payroll tax cut, calling it an “unacceptable” vote that would raise taxes “on 160 million hardworking Americans because they didn’t want to ask a few hundred thousand of the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share to get the economy growing faster.”
Prediction: Fox will claim this is proof President Obama is a foot solider in the War On Christmas™. And eventually Republicans will cave.
