I'm not able to be part of the diary conversation much tonight, because I have another important obligation--but I want to share my wonderful news with all of you.
Today, at my oncology consult, I heard the good news that my CT scan last Thursday showed remarkable, dramatic improvement compared to September! Of the 5 lung nodules I had, 3 are not now detectable, and the remaining 2 are reduced by half; all the lymph nodes that were suspicious before are now not showing up at all.
This is the first good news we've had since my diagnosis, almost a year ago, so we are all thrilled and relieved. Despite all my conscientious plans, it was a tough weekend of waiting.
So what gets the credit for this terrific progress?
Everything, I think. The hormone treatment; my Ayurvedic therapies; acupuncture; my vegan diet (and the detox); Vitamin D3; Reiki; qi gong; yoga; meditation; walks outside; infra-red massage bed; prayers; my magic Kos quilt. Everything.
I know it may not last. I know that other people may have tried all these things and may not have had as good results. I know that what works for one is no panacea, alas.
But today, I am delighted to have this indication of efficacy, and I hope to be able to enjoy it as long as possible. And as far as I'm concerned (and the oncologist too), it's more of the same, please.
I'll come back in about 11:00 PM EST to see what's been happening. Hope that you all have a good chat without me. See you soon.
Monday Night Cancer Club is a Daily Kos group focused on dealing with cancer, primarily for cancer survivors and caregivers, though clinicians, researchers, and others with a special interest are also welcome. Volunteer diarists post Monday evenings between 8-9 PM ET on topics related to living with cancer, which is very broadly defined to include physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive aspects. Mindful of the controversies endemic to cancer prevention and treatments we ask that both diarists and commenters keep an open mind regarding strategies for surviving cancer, whether based in traditional, Eastern, Western, allopathic or other medical practices. This is a club no one wants to join, in truth, and compassion will help us make it through the challenge together.
