Once upon a time Jon Huntsman positioned himself as the sane candidate.
Then the rise of Newt Gingrich convinced him he could win.
And he flip-flopped on climate change.
Jon Huntsman must really think he's got a shot at pulling off an upset because he's
gone all flip-floppy on climate change:
Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman appeared to take a notably more skeptical view towards current climate change science Tuesday, saying that the "scientific community owes us more" on the issue and that not enough solid research exists to "formulate policies" based on global warming.
Contrast this with what he said earlier in the year:
To be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy.
And why is he changing his tune now?
"Because ... there are questions about the validity of the science, evidence by one university over in Scotland recently, I think the onus is on the scientific community to provide more in the way of information, to help clarify the situation, that's all."
Bull. It's because he can smell double-digits in some New Hampshire polling, and he knows Republicans can't accept a candidate who actually believes climate change is real and that humans are contributing to it. So rather than trying to change their minds, he's convincing himself to change his own.
