Some strong advocates hurt their own cause when they mistake their friends and supporters as enemies. They see constructive criticism as attack, react viscerally, and close themselves off from corrective actions.
I was amazed and disheartened at the strong negative reactions to my post, “Super liberals confuse capitalism with government.” They were identical to the ones I get when I write op-eds critical of right-wing conservatives.
The post was an adaptation of an op-ed I wrote for the Asheville (NC) Citizen-Times. If you read it, you’ll see that it was a criticism of right-wing conservatives. In emails to me and the newspaper website, along with many positive comments, I also was called a socialist and communist.
To get accurate insight into my political orientation, you can check out all 25 of my op-eds for the past five years by going to this website.
You also can download my first three books free of charge by going to books.google.com and entering “The Destructive Achiever,” “The Great Limbaugh Con,” and “Class War in America.”
If that’s not enough to demonstrate my credentials as an objective (and therefore “liberal”) observer of the U.S. and international political and economic scenes, go to my three websites, only one of which is now being maintained: Defend Democratic Capitalism!, Farewell Fantasyland, and In Defense of Democratic CapitalismIn Defense of Democratic Capitalism.
Cheers! (But, also, realize who’s on your side.)
