Good Morning, Everyone!
This is the site for The99PercentDeclaration
Many of us have now seen the ads this week on Current TV.
This excellent video sums up the main points of the 99% Declaration (as the draft currently stands) - this is Our Petition for the Redress of Grievances - that, after voting on and getting a finalized document, we intend to present to the President, Congress, and the Supreme Court.
I've been following them on Facebook this past week, and I'm personally very exited about the movement moving forward and evolving into the political force for change that our Democracy needs. The National General Assembly is to be held in my hometown of Philadelphia, PA in July 2012. As of this morning, they have raised just under $15,000 towards this goal:
Good morning all. So as of this morning, before checking the mail box for checks, we have raised $14,513.18 since November 7th. Our target is $40,000 by 12-20 and who knows, maybe we will reach it.
The new webpage is up and you may now register for delegate. The webpage is at www.the99declaration.org and I want to thank Ty, Karlie, Bill, Jonathan, Laura for the excellent work. Everyone is a volunteer and no one gets paid so we should all be really grateful to the talented people who donate their time like this!
We are on the agenda for the Occupy Philly GA tonight so please come out and show your support. I wish I could be there but I am four hours away.
Let us know if you have any questions about the delegate voting process. We are still taking bids from companies that specialize in online voting to help us run a secure, open, free and fair election in March.
We will get corporations out of politics and restore democracy in this country.
Now, they are looking at two sites, but, as in all event planning, a security deposit needs to be put down to hold the dates. The security deposit for the first site is $8,000 and they have the vote up on the Facebook page (The Ninety-Nine Percent Declaration) if you would care to add your voice to the poll.
They are also asking if everyone who has friended them on Facebook could pledge a $10 donation before February 15th, 2012, so that there will be enough money to cover the total expense for the National General Assembly. I'll let you all right now, even with being unemployed, I've already given them $10, and I've pledged another $10.
I wish I had $10,000 to give, I believe in this movement so deeply. I believe in the Occupy movement and the 99% Declaration enough to skip a hair coloring and let the world (and boyfriend) see my gray for another 4 weeks. I believe enough to shovel my own driveway next blizzard we get. I believe enough to drink crummy-boxed wine instead of cheapo-bottled for a couple weeks. (Not quite enough to stop buying Fair Trade coffee, but I thought about it, so now I'm already feeling guilty that I even thought about supporting child slave labor.)
So please, if you believe in the goals of the Occupy Movement, and if you agree with the points outlined in the 99% Declaration, please help the National General Assembly become a reality. Donate.
Oh, and if any Kossacks end up elected as delegates, my home is open next summer.
Peace.
