It's shocking how out of touch One Percenter Mitt Romney is that he would bet $10,000 at a public debate. $10,000 is a huge amount of money for most Americans - and most Americans will likely never have $10,000 laying around to make bets with.
$10,000 goes a long way...here are some examples after the jump.
One year of rent in an average 2-bedroom apartment in Detroit, Michigan or Rochester, NY.
About a year of food for the average family of four.
Two years of tuition at a two-year (community) college. And then about another 1/2 a year at a state college. In other words, 2 1/2 years of college for a frugal student.
Two years of health insurance coverage for a family.
Paying off 2/3 of the typical American family's credit card debt.
Paying off about 40% of a typical 2010 graduate's student loan debt.
Any way you look at it, this is a substantial amount of money to the 99% of Americans who Mitt Romney apparently cares nothing about. If he's willing to throw $10,000 around like this, he's so out of touch how could anyone ever think he could be responsive to the needs of the middle class.
Mitt, would you like to bet me $10,000 that I can find evidence that you don't have a clue about what the middle class is like?
